Infamous director Woody Allen has helmed over fifty feature films, bringing his acerbic New York humour to screen from both behind and in front of the camera.

This first volume features three charming 90s entries packed with comedy, drama, and heart:

Husbands and Wives (1992)

One of Woody Allen's most celebrated and uncompromising films, Husbands and Wives is a bracingly honest and darkly funny drama starring Allen himself alongside Mia Farrow, Sydney Pollack, Liam Neeson, and Judy Davis (Oscar-nominated for her performance in this film). When Jack and Sally tell their close friends Gabe and Judy that they are separating, both couples are forced to confront the fragility of commitment and the reality of change. The film was released at the height of Allen and Farrow's very public breakdown of their personal relationship, giving its themes an immediacy that no publicist could have engineered.

Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993)

Manhattan Murder Mystery saw Woody Allen and Diane Keaton reunite for the first time since four-time Oscar-winner Annie Hall (1977), in this riveting comedy-mystery also starring Anjelica Huston and Alan Alda. When their elderly neighbour suddenly drops dead, mild-mannered New Yorker Carol Lipton becomes convinced that something is not right, and nothing her sceptical husband Larry says will persuade her to let it go. What begins as an idle obsession soon snowballs into a full-blown amateur investigation, drawing in friends, suspects, and more complications than either of them bargained for? Part screwball comedy, part Hitchcock homage, and entirely irresistible, Manhattan Murder Mystery was awarded three out of four stars from Roger Ebert, described as "an accomplished balancing act".

Bullets Over Broadway (1994)

Worldwide first on 4K UHD!

The jazz age of 1920s New York is alive and kicking in Bullets Over Broadway, a hilarious black comedy starring John Cusack, with an Oscar-winning performance from Dianne Wiest, and Oscar-nominated performances from Chazz Palminteri and Jennifer Tilly. Desperate to get his new play to Broadway, idealistic young playwright David Shayne strikes a dangerous deal with a local mob boss: full financing in exchange for a starring role for the gangster's talentless girlfriend Olive. But when Olive's brooding bodyguard Cheech begins sitting in on rehearsals and quietly offering script suggestions, David starts to wonder whether the real artistic genius in the room might not be who he expected. Nominated for seven Academy Awards and described by the New York Times as "a bright, energetic, sometimes side-splitting comedy with vital matters on its mind", Bullets Over Broadway is widely regarded as one of Allen's very finest films.
